Narnia Evaluation
Our task was to recreate a scene from The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe after being given a script from a particular scene. We spent a large amount of time planning our final cut. Some aspects of the final cut originated from the start whereas others had changed throughout the process. One example of something that changed was the location. We originally planned to film in some plantation gardens in Norwich, however this changed to a forest nearby, which cut the overall cost as there was no need to pay for travel. Other options for locations included Mousehold Heath and Bewilderwood. We had various locations to recreate including Mr Tumnus' House and the forest.
We drew storyboards to help us plan what the final cut will look like. We also auditioned people in order to cast the characters to ensure that those performing are capable and enthusiastic about what they are doing. We used a small part of the script in the auditions.
The storyboards helped our communication within the group. They allowed us to have an idea of what it is we were filming. We followed these storyboards closely with very little changes. These storyboards greatly assisted in filming the final task as we knew exactly what we were doing. Communication was also involved in the making of the storyboards, as we had to agree on what would look best in our final cut. We also had a group chat to ensure that we were able to communicate progress with each other outside of school. The group was quite small allowing easy communication and everyone to have a clear role.
We had to find our own cast in order to complete the task. We auditioned many people for the parts but in the end came up with Izzy for the part of Lucy and Raygen for the part of Mr Tumnus. We think the choice for actors was excellent as they clearly show enthusiasm for acting in each shot. Everyone was also assigned roles for the project which they were happy with and allowed them to complete the work they needed to. We had our own costumes for the characters which were sourced from various members of the group.
We required two settings for the scene in which we were filming. Mr Tumnus's house and the woodland. We used a regular house and a small nearby woodland in the town of Wymondham. We looked at many possible options for locations however we found these to be the best for filming and cost. Props included parcels for Mr Tumnus's house. We also considered using fake snow to make the final cut as similar to the real thing as possible, however we realised this was not possible.
We considered the camera angles when we were filming. We used shots such as over-the shoulder shots and close-up shots. This allowed us to create a good quality film. These shots allow the viewer to feel as if they are there with the characters and allow them to connect. When it came to editing, we had two pairs editing the final film. This allowed the group to decide which would be the better final cut. We used equipment such as tripods and monopods when filming to ensure that our work was not shaky. There were two people filming at once to allow different viewpoints of the film to be used. These are both from the ground but also in the trees which we could make use of since our setting was a woodland.
Our script used a clear linear narrative. We were given the script and had to follow it as closely as possible. A linear narrative is a story which has a clear start, middle or end.
Much of the lighting within the filming was natural light. We did have some issues with it as the sun started to go down. This was filmed towards the end of November so there was little to prevent this due to the days being much shorter. The indoor scene used some artificial light, which overall worked well.

I think that the final cut worked out well and everyone completed their roles to the best of their ability. There was good organisation and planning involved and the execution of the task worked well. I am happy with how the project was to carry out and how it was at the end.
